Incest

Incest is defined as sexual contact between family members. Incestuous rape often goes unreported because of:

  • Shame associated with societal stigma

  • Fear family member's reactions and anger

  • Feel that they are in the wrong

  • Their perception of trust has been distorted by this family member

When youth confide in you, be helpful and mindful. Allow them to share their experience safely. Take all their words seriously.


If you suspect a child engaged in incest, please report it to Child Protective Services, Human Services, or the police.
