The Issue of SA in India

Due to the high rates of violence and assault that disproportionately affect women, India was named as the worst country for women in 2018. India has high incidences of rape, child marriage, and acid attacks.


  • There have been a number of demonstrations calling for better treatment of women.

  • The rape and murder of a New Delhi woman in 2012 changed the course of Indian government, leading to legislation that toughened the punishments for sexual assault, rape, and abuse, including instituting the death penalty.

  • South Asian culture frequently devalues women, making them feel guilty for being raped and propagating the fallacious idea that victims are to blame.
